A former Coach House with wonderful charm and historic interest

The Coach House in Datchet is a charming three bedroom family home set in wonderful grounds and part of a former grand country house, known as The Lawns, in Datchet.

The magnificent property is believed to have been built in the late 1800s, by John Crake, an architect from London, whose wife had inherited a cluster of complex buildings and land. Crake set about redeveloping and reshaping the original dwellings to create an extremely fashionable residence known as The Lawns.

After World War II the property was divided into a number of residences, of which The Coach House is one of the more prominent properties. The development is approached by a delightful private road leading to a pair of electronic wrought iron gates with an entry phone system. There is a further set of gates that lead under the coaching arch, to the front door.

A heavy hardwood front door leads into the drawing room, with a feature gas fireplace, oak flooring and stairs leading to the first floor. An archway leads to the living room which features a chimney breast, alcove shelving, oak floors and a set of French doors leading out to the delightful garden. The kitchen and utility room run alongside the main reception rooms. On the first floor is the master bedroom with en-suite shower room. There is also access to a private terrace off the master bedroom, overlooking the established gardens. The second bedroom has an en-suite shower room and the third bedroom has full use of the family bathroom.

The gardens are charming and stocked with established trees and shrubs. There is a pavioured patio, shaped lawn, swimming pool, a brick built office discreetly screened to one corner and a further large wooden building, with light and power supply. It is currently in use as a games room, but has potential to be converted into further accommodation, subject to the usual building regulations. There is parking for up to eight cars on the shingle drive and a vegetable plot.

According to Chris Littler, manager of sales for The Frost Partnership in Windsor, “The Coach House is quite unique in that it is an established home, full of warmth, history and charm. There is still potential to extend and improve on the current design, and it is conveniently located just a walk away from Datchet train station which takes no longer than 53 minutes direct to London, Waterloo.”

The Coach House, Datchet has recently been reduced in price and is for sale for £899,950 through The Frost Partnership, Windsor. To book a viewing call 01753 833000.
