New Home, New Look for 2024

If you are thinking about moving house and making some changes when you move in or maybe planning a fresh new look for your existing home, then here are some hints and tips about ringing the changes. For expert inspiration and motivation, it’s worth a visit to The Ideal Home Show at Olympia, London from 22nd March – 7th April 2024 where exhibitors will be showcasing all the latest products and on-trend, high-tech solutions for your ideal home. You can “Explore the Dream Home - the biggest, most extravagant, and innovative property to ever feature at the Ideal Home Show.” And this year, for the first time ever, all the products on show in the Dream Home can be purchased at the show! Ahead of the show, here are some pointers for what’s trending in décor this year.

Dulux Colour of the Year for 2024 is Sweet Embrace™ “a gentle blossom pink that is welcoming and brings a sense of peace and softness to a space. Sweet Embrace can bring a sense of stability, calm and friendliness to living and working spaces.” This will sit well as greys are replaced in interior design, by off whites, beiges and neutrals, palettes that are warm and cosy.

Our love of nature is set to stay, so bring the outdoors in with lush greenery, earthy colours and eco-friendly materials to create a relaxed vibe. Sustainability remains a watchword in 2024’s interior design trends. Many materials such as aluminium, rattan and bamboo are considered environmentally friendly. Increasingly we are upcycling or choosing vintage furniture, rather than buying brand new. If you are trying to shop more sustainably, consider buying furniture made from sustainably sourced, local or recycled materials and reduce waste by buying/selling second hand furniture on sites like Gumtree and Freecycle. There’s also growing interest in local crafts and design that is bespoke and hand-made and this will be reflected in accessories and sturdy homeware sculpted for longevity.

Smart tech is increasingly the order of the day, seamlessly integrating into our homes for comfort and convenience. From voice-activated or smart lighting to remote control of heating and electrical products, innovations are designed to make life easier and more efficient. Lighting is key to the look of any room; LED bulbs have changed lighting for good with low energy consumption and longevity.

As the days get longer, make the most of natural daylight with semi-transparent curtains that allow light to filter in and place mirrors strategically to maximise the effect. Statement downlights are increasingly being used to highlight features such as kitchen islands or dining tables. Choosing fixtures made from sustainable materials like bamboo or recycled glass, will help reduce your carbon footprint and make your home even “greener”. Bold use of tiles can really make a statement too from wall to floor with dramatic patterns, and unexpected layouts to add grandeur and character. Highlight a focal point or feature wall with pattern, tactile texture and bespoke designs.

Whatever trends inspire your interiors in 2024, have some fun with your design, done your way, and relax and enjoy the results. For a free market appraisal of your property and professional advice, please contact your local Frost office.
