Set within South Bucks, Gerrards Cross is regarded as a highly desirable commuter town, within 30 minutes of London Heathrow, yet surrounded by picturesque and scenic open countryside. Gerrards Cross lies close to the intersection of the M25 and the M40, giving the town excellent motorway links, while the A40 provides direct access to central London. Gerrards Cross mainline train station offers commuters a journey time to London Marylebone of just 18 minutes.
The town has an outstanding Church of England primary school and is within catchment for several Bucks grammar schools, while a range of private schools is also available such as St Mary’s, Gayhurst, Maltman’s Green, Thorpe House and Merchant Taylors School at Northwood.
Sports facilities include Gerrards Cross Sports Club, which offers tennis, cricket and hockey and Bull Lane Tennis Club. Golfers are well catered for by Gerrards Cross Golf Club, Denham Golf Club and Stoke Park Golf and Country Club. Gerrards Cross Memorial Centre provides a lively hub for community events including its popular fireworks display in November, concerts and society meetings.
The town has a lively high street with banks, supermarkets, cafes, boutiques, and some 25 restaurants in or near the town centre such as Di Paolo, Bawarchi, The Ethorpe, The Bull, and The Black Horse. Larger shopping centres can be found at Uxbridge, Watford and Eden in High Wycombe.
Within the town open spaces for walking include West Common and its ponds, Austenwood Common, Bulstrode Park and The Camp (of Roman origin). A short drive away is also the Green Flag award winning Black Park with 350 acres of woodland walks just next to Pinewood Studios.
