Feltham Rocks!
Friday, June 29, 2018
'Feltham Rocks' is a new craze that is really capturing the imagination of the town. Painted stones are hidden around the town in unexpected places where the public can find them. The finder can re-hide the stone or keep it, in which case they must create a new one for others to enjoy. One rock has travelled to Cuba and on to Canada. It’s a fun craze which can really brighten someone’s day.
The idea is you decorate the rock and put the 'Feltham rocks' Facebook page on the back so the finder knows what group to follow. Designs so far include rainbows, dinosaurs, Mr Men characters and one which represents Hanworth Park House, a derelict building which the community is currently campaigning to save.
Local MP Seema Malhotra supports the cause of Hanworth Park House and there is huge local interest in its restoration. She believes that "This is a historic site and a hugely significant local asset. It has the potential to be a fabulous tourist attraction as well as once again playing a big part in the lives of local people.”
The Frost Partnership Feltham office is supporting "Feltham Rocks" with a £100 prize for the winner, at Hanworth Park House Classic Car Show and Summer Fair 10am-4pm on Saturday 7th July. Come along and decorate a rock and you will be entered in the prize draw. The lucky winner will be announced at 3.30pm on the day.
Funds raised from the show will support the restoration of Hanworth Park House, a derelict grade II listed building at risk of being lost forever. In 200 years it has been a splendid private house to various families, a hospital for wounded service men during the First World War, Headquarters of The National Flying Service Ltd, a hotel and an old peoples’ home. It closed in 1992 and has deteriorated in the 25 years it has been left empty. The current owner is looking to restore it to its former glory.
