I’m dreaming of a white Christmas..

It may be freezing outside but the odds of a white Christmas in London are low at 5/1 and that’s for just one snowflake to fall on Christmas Day. We all want our Christmas to be perfect and whilst a snowy Christmas is high on some wish lists, there are many other ways to create a happy home over the festive season. So as Christmas music and baubles fill the high street and the frenzy of shopping and gift wrapping grows, here are some ways to create a stress free, happy Christmas at home.

Every year millions of households declutter in January once the decorations come down. But why wait? Why not get started before the tree goes up and enjoy “instantly larger” rooms. Create a clean canvas before the decorations go up and enjoy a new look as well as extra space! If you’re not sure where or how to begin, call in the professionals; it could be the best present you give yourself!

With so much extra space, find clever ways to maximise it if you have a houseful of guests over Christmas and New Year. Innovative seating and storage options can double up as guest beds and room dividers, and you can add a sprinkle of Christmas magic with Christmas lights and candles to make your home feel warm and welcoming. If you’re still short of space for a Christmas tree, get creative with some branches and lights and make or buy your own show-stopping, wall-mounted tree.

Hygge and Lagom (meaning “cosy” and “just the right amount”) are the Scandinavian buzzwords behind a sustainable, minimalist décor style that has been popular recently and the principles combine really well at Christmas creating a relaxed and cosy home that everyone can enjoy. If you’re looking for ‘lagom’ in the New Year, start with small changes to save money, reduce waste and live a healthier lifestyle.

The custom of Christmas lights dates back to 18th century Germany where candles were first used to decorate Christmas trees and by the 1950s, strings of electric lights were widely used. With a little inspiration, it’s easy to decorate with Christmas lights both indoors and out. Wrap white fairy lights around branches decorated with silver, beaded garlands or use decorated letters to spell out festive words draped with fairy lights. Add extra dimension to a wreath with fairy lights to create instant impact and a welcome for guests or fill a large glass vase with scented pine cones, baubles and lights for a stunning and aromatic display. Christmas aromas like gingerbread, berries, cinnamon and orange create a relaxing ambience for gift wrapping or just some valuable “me” time!

Whatever your plans for Christmas, we hope you’ll find time to relax and enjoy time at home with family and friends in preparation for the New Year!
