Spotlight on Burnham – Our estate agent’s view

Spotlight on Burnham – Our estate agent’s view. There’s a timeless quality to the village of Burnham which lies west of Slough close to J7 of the M4. The village itself dates back to Roman times although it was first recorded in the Domesday Book in 1086 as Burneham meaning "homestead on a stream". Fast forward a few centuries and there's a real sense of village life with the outstanding (OFSTED) Dropmore School, Burnham Grammar School, clubs and societies like rowing, bridge, opera and sailing all keeping the community spirit alive. Transport links are excellent, with mainline railway stations at Burnham and Taplow, connecting to London Paddington, Slough and Reading. Journey times are set to improve still further with the advent of Crossrail and have already raised property prices in the area.
A wealth of character and exposed beams

This truly exceptional detached 18th century barn conversion is probably one of the finest examples to come to the market in recent years, situated in grounds approaching one acre, close to Seer Green village centre and main line station serving London Marylebone. Ponds Barn, we believe, dates back to 1780 and is set within a very desirable location, enjoying a private outlook over its own beautifully maintained gardens and grounds. The property has retained much of its original charm in the creation of a modern home with a wealth of character and exposed beams.
Spring in the air
Thursday, March 14, 2019
After the warmest February day on record, spring is in the air and it’s an exciting time for homeowners; an ideal time to think seriously about selling or letting and making plans for the year ahead. Spring often prompts a flurry of activity in the property market and more properties tend to start coming to the market for sale or rental. Whilst political uncertainty is sure to be having some impact on the property market, it has almost become the ‘new norm’ in the UK such that both buyers and sellers are reaching the conclusion that now is as good a time as any to make a move especially while interest rates are still relatively low and whilst a shortage of property in the UK maintains a high level of demand. First time buyers in particular are enjoying record low interest rates and incentives to purchase and, while this continues, it is a good time to get their first foot on the property ladder.
DIY to add value
Tuesday, March 12, 2019
With the clocks going forward at the end of March, and the “bank holiday season” almost upon us, around 75% of UK homeowners start making home improvements this month. Whether you’re moving or improving, it’s important to weigh up the cost of a project and the potential value it may add. A good estate agent can advise you on this and what improvements could sell your home quickly or at a higher price in your neighbourhood. If you’re selling, it makes sense to present your property well to avoid any negotiation on price. Often buyers overestimate the time and cost to refurbish a house and reduce their offer accordingly.

Spotlight on Slough – our estate agents view. Home to some of the best known names in business - Mars, Amazon, Honda, O2 to name but a few - and with over £700m output in manufacturing, Slough is one of the top 3 most productive towns in the UK outside of London. The town has undergone a transformation with over £450m investment through The Heart of Slough development creating 1,600 new homes, 70,000 sqm of office space, a 120 bed hotel, bus station, retail/leisure opportunities and the £22m cultural hub project “The Curve” which was recently completed. Not surprising then that Slough was named “Britain’s boomtown” by The Observer and in 2017 it was named as the best place to live and work in the UK in a survey by employment website Glassdoor.
In uncertain times it’s good to have someone you can rely on
Thursday, February 28, 2019
With political uncertainty the new norm in the UK, it’s more important than ever before to make sure that, if you are thinking of selling or letting your home, you market your property with someone you can trust, not just to do a good job but to protect your funds in the process and still be there for you when you reach completion day. The property market is changing, and in selecting your agent you need to weigh up the pros and cons and think seriously about the risks.
